Abstract

A comparison of functions of the voluntary opening (VO) hand tool and the voluntary closing (VC) hand tool was performed using simulated body-powered prostheses for 52 healthy adults. We compared The Southampton Hand Assessment Procedure (SHAP) score and time required to complete each task. The results show VC hand tool may be easier to use than VO hand tool for operations that require strong gripping force and operations that require quick operation.
